Chirpy’s Cricket Club was established in 2017 by James Caunt, who describes himself as a “cricket fanatic" who has represented both Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and the Jersey National Team.
James formed Chirpy’s Academy in 2017 as he was looking for new activities to engage and entertain his two active boys and contribute to their lifelong learnings. After a visit to the local cinema to watch Trolls on a wet winters morning in January, of which James still bares the scares, he set out to create a “fun first” cricket skills programme specifically designed for young children. After weeks of planning and starting with just a few of his sons friends in his back garden, the Academy has now grown from strength to strength, now boasting over 140 children, with an ever growing waiting list. What started as a bit of family fun, is now a proud established Academy with a strong progression of talented players feeding into the official Jersey Cricket Under 11’s Team.
In 2020, Chirpy’s Cricket Club expanded its membership to include a senior men’s cricket team “The Chiefs” who went on to win the Evening League Cup in their first season of competitive competition.
Making their debut in 2021 will be the introduction of a women’s soft ball team “The Chicks” where they will enhance or learn a new skill, whilst having fun. The Chicks will be open to anyone over the age of 13 and no experience is needed.
Chirpy’s Cricket Club is all about fun, however, there is a real respect for the game which is inherent in its vision, mission and values. From attitude to kit, high class coaching, the Club is sharp and structured and takes pride in instilling qualities of skill, focus and respect, at whatever level of age and ability.
